Happy Birthday Katey

On Monday Katey turned the big 1-4. Woohoo, 14 at last! First thing in the morning Peter took Katey to get her hair highlighted. She has been waiting 4 years for this day to arrive. And after 3 hours in the salon chair she was blissfully happy! After that Aunty Amy and I took her shopping for her grade 8 graduation dress. And whew, we actually found one. If you know Katey and clothes this was a small miracle, OK a huge miracle. Aunty Amy also bough Katey some makeup and gave her a lesson later that afternoon.

This picture shows off her beautiful highlights.

And the best part of the day would have to be the small "surprise party" we pulled off with her 3 closest friends. I had called that morning when we knew Katey wouldn't have any opportunity to talk to her friends, and planned to have the girls there at 5 o'clock. The only thing was we hadn't counted on border traffic being so crazy! It was a Canadian holiday and everyone and their dog was trying to cross back into Canada at the same time as us. We were stuck in the traffic line for an hour and a half. So we called home to tell Peter to change the time of the party to six, but oops, Katey was with us. So Amy called Darren and asked him to reschedule his 'meeting' for six. It took Peter and Darren a few minutes to figure out our cryptic code, but they eventually got it and postponed the surprise and bought us an hour! And boy was she surprised.

Happy birthday Katey, we love you!

happy birthday katey... your hair looks great. I'm guessing by the look of her friends, white cardigans are in style or something.
